I am a paranormal investigator from WI. Several years ago, my team and I spent every night of an entire week out there. The fact is, it IS car lights. On the third night of our investigation, we had the good fortune to acquire a helicopter for a couple hours. As the pilot flew us around the area, we relayed to team members on the ground information about cars on Hwy 45. We were able to relay to them with perfect accuracy what they were about to see as the cars came around the curve. The white light is head lights, the red lights are brake and tail lights. This is clearly visible in the video footage posted on this sight. The believers just choose to ignore it. Paranormal investigation is about fact and evidence, all of it. You can't just pick out what you want and discard the rest so that your theory is right. It is what it is. And for those who challenge this with encounters of the light shooting up and dancing around, I challenge you to show me some evidence.

I'm sure their are enough people out there that would love to show you some evidence and given time they will, but you had a helicopter flying around up there proving your theory, so I think you should have to prove that you really did have a chopper and you are not just giving us a bunch of bull. Where did you get the chopper, who was the pilot, when did this take place. Some video would be nice. You want to prove something, I say prove it

The chopper was contracted from Trans North Aviation Limited out of Eagle River, WI. The investigation was conducted from Sept 12 through Sept 20 of 1996. It was our second investigation as a paranormal investigation group. Video would be nice, but I regret that there is none from the investigation to show you. Our research of the light is well documented and each experiment was well thought out and executed in accordance to the scientific method. Each theory was tested and experimented. As far as the video on this site goes, and I quote "the single most compelling piece of evidence" it is apparent that these are just car lights. This video is exactly what we saw each and every night that we were out there. I do not mean to offend, but I deal in facts and the facts clearly point to car lights in the distance. As for the believers proving their theories, where is the evidence? Every piece of video I have seen has looked exactly like the video on this site. We have been asked to return to the Paulding Light several times to reinvestigate, but we feel that we did a thorough job the first time and returning would only yield similar results. Perhaps if someone could give us reason to return, say a decent video, we would consider our investigation to be incomplete and return to Watersmeet, but noone has been able to produce anything thus far. And yes, we were at the right place. We stood by the sign and read it. The area in the video is exactly as I remember it. Our group has a very open mind about these things, but the fact is that out of the 300+ investigations we have conducted in the last twelve years, 89% are proven to be non paranormal, 8% have been inconclusive, and only 3% are considered paranormal. Sorry, but the Paulding Light falls in the 89%.

Very good, it sounds like you got all your bases covered, i'm sure you will here from other people on this forum about this. One question, how come it took you so long to post something, it's 2008 for Pete's sake, 1996 was quite awhile ago. I really think you should go back and check it out again. It may not be paranormal, but something strange is going on, that is for sure. I know video evidence is crucial to an in depth investigation and that is what is needed desparately in this case. I hope to get back there soon to do just that. As far as being in the right place, their is some discussion about the signs being in different places. I'm waiting for Rick from the U S Forrestry Service to respond. Anyways, very interesting.

I apologize for not posting earlier, but I was not aware of this site. I came accross it in an e-mail that was sent to me this past week. In 1996, the internet was still not something that everyone was using yet. As a matter of fact, I didn't get online until 2000. Looking back, video would have been nice. However, money was a problem for us. Video cameras ran close to $1200 if I remember right. The chopper was contracted for 3 hours at $150 an hour plus fuel costs. It took every dime we had to share two cruddy motel rooms and get the chopper. We even spared a few meals to make it happen. Anyhow, I do not expect us to return to the area. We are content in our research from our visit. I could take any video form Youtube and basically attach it as evidence because they are exactly the same thing we saw. Time would be the only variable. If we came accross video that contradicted our research, we may return. However, it has been 12 years and I have yet to see it.

So, I have been up there quite a few times and I would say I'm am definetly a skeptic. One night I decided to go w/ 2 friends and try to do some EVP work, and well lets just say I caught a voice. I have seen the light turn white, green, red, and yellow. Another thing that was very odd was when I stood back by the first gaurd rail I could see the light, but my friends who were up on the light could see nothing. Odd...So if anyone would like to see/hear the evp just ask!! It's pretty cool if you ask me!!

if you were able to prove that this is car lights, then why dont you contact Ripley's Believe It or Not to collect your $100,000? Ive been there and I dont believe that its car lights. This has been happening for years before cars were even used.

O.K. ... I'm going to bite at this. This" I am a paranormal investigator" crap I hear from people irritate me. Seeming I am close to 45 yrs. old and have seen the light back in 1985 when the road was not closed off and the light was down in the valley. Mr. "Investigator"... with true investigations you should be able to tell me what is the elevation of the viewing point, the elevation of the hill the lights have to come over and what the elevation is of the 1.3 mile stretch of hwy 45 is that you claim the light is coming from in order for the light to remain seen for a minute and a half or longer. Also explain how you kept in contact with ground personnel from a helicopter when you need a special radio for that and a standard wakie has the strength for about a mile...more than that you need a license to use it. Much less explain to me how headlights bend over a hill and down into a valley where I was.

Ok I am 30 years old and my grandparents live in Watersmeet,MI and have taken us to the Mystery Light since we were little....... A few years back they had REAL investigators out there trying to prove if it was real and they could NOT find the source so...sorry your full of crud buddy!!!!! Its real, its a mystery so leave it at that!! I am taking my kids to see it this weekend while we are up north and this will be their first time seeing it and I am excited to take them!!

I have parents who live in Three Lakes and make the trek whenever I get a chance most recently Sunday afternoon.

My son and I went out when It was still light and were able to make out a white light appearing every few minutes.

We hiked down the hill, crossed the stream, back up another hill until we reached a road. There was a side road which came out from the north(5260 or 5620) which headed west. We walked down the road until we found a path going up a hill which allowed you a clear view of where the Paulding light appears. You could also see the road which headed west towards the light.

We returned to the main viewing area and traveled North on the highway until we found the dirt road which took us even with the telephone polls heading west. A word about this road, It is very narrow so beware of vehicles coming from the other direction.

Once we hit the road heading west we came across some backwoods houses which gave it kind of a mysterious feeling.

We saw no sign of any light and we finally came out back on the highway by some place called Running Bear Lodge and Agate Falls.

It made us wonder if the light was behind us now or not.
We were not able to stay around until dark but I would be curious to know if you could pursue the light from the west heading east or if the light was still further west.
