Why hasnt anyone chased it down? Bring a dirtbike for cripes sake and buzz down the road and confront the thing. Make sure you wear a helmut mounted camera.
At a minimum someone should position themselves in the woods down the trail with a camera so they can sneak up on it.

Yes. Its a highway those are car lights and emergency vehicle lights.
We tested it with friends.

I tried but then I got a bit spooked because it chased me back is typical of the general populous desire to keep what has been exposed as a hoax as a mystery to keep the fun going. Or is Michigan full of sissyboys who are scared of being in the dark alone? That fellow who reported that his "team" with a helicopter and such are full of nuts. Noone puts that much effort and money into a study of this light and doesnt make a formal report, nor are their pics, vids or spectrographs. All this light has done has brought the liars out who are lieing to liars and perpetuating the most simple explanation into a myth that brings the curious away from their televisions. Its amazing that even this blog site was created for it.

Saturday night September 20th 2008. My husband and I went to see the Paulding Lights after reading about them on an orv map, and talking to people at the motel where we stayed in White Pine Michigan.
We asked why no one had tried to get close to it/them too. We were told; believably, that many people have tried to. It simply disappears when you try to locate it or get close to it.
We saw it, it wasn't car lights, impossible because the light changed colors and went in an opposite direction. Don't know of any car lights capable of that!

You'll probably call me a liar too and I must mention it's rude of you to imply that someone is a "sissy" because they get creeped out by the light. I bet if you saw it chase your butt, you'd pi$$ all over yourself! Sorry I just had to say that Anyway, blackriverdude said in another post that he lives near the light...So obviously he's seen it a lot which means he's most likely seen it do some things out of the norm.

There are other options besides someone being a liar. 1. They have a tendancy to get really scared and their imagination gets the best of them. 2. It really happened. I'll admit some really outrageous stories I don't believe, but I've seen it shoot down the road, so I might believe it would come after someone...Especially someone who is a regular

I hope you also know that the light has been studied. I think...was it Unsolved Mysteries that went there once? I'm pretty sure that's who it was. Anyway, I don't see why some people wouldn't want to investigate on their own. Think about it. If you lived in the area and tell you the truth the light is kinda famous...why not try to investigate it?! I know I'd do it if I lived closer!

I have walked to the light many times. The first time a few years back. went as far as we could until we came to a swamp. this year was very dry and we made it through the swamp. Many times while walking toward it you can not see it. This year we made it to the gorge, people who have walked it know what I'm talking about. At the east edge of the gorge we saw glowing over the west edge, and saw the white light from the back. It's not car lights. It just floats there. It has never scared me, I would really like to surround it. I plan to go back in the spring and cross rhe gorge. bring enough people and communications to moniter it at the same time from different points

The reason the light looked like it was going in a different direction is because when a light source from a distance starts to level out the light can "pull back" so to speak and then come back forth brighter. The way you described it as changing color and going the opposite direction all but cements the headlight theory because if you study headlights from a great distance you will get the EXACT effect you are talking about. As I stated before my colleagues are college Physics teachers and they have been there and have came back with proof that it is nothing more than headlights.

I have a feeling that a lot of the people that see the lights and claim there not headlights are probably very superstitious.
