It is a tourist attraction but it is not one generated by a marketing firm. It is a tourist attraction much like old faithful. It was there and the tourists came. There is simply not any sign of revenue generation going on from it that would support the expense of powering a moving light 24 hours a day. I know some determined pranksters but nobody is going to hoax 24/7/365 either. Sometimes the most likely answer is the right one and that is it is some weird natural occurrence. Why the town doesn't try to capitalize on the light I will never know.
