I dont believe the hogwash about it being Car headlights or tail lights. I flew to the UP and got to finally see the light with my girlfriend who lives/d there (she moved to Georgia with me) and has seen it many times, in June.
Seeing it with my own eyes after having it described to me was finally justification for the descriptions I had read and heard about it.
I cannot say for certain what the light is or represents but I am "certain" that it is not car headlights or tail lights. Not being from around there, it was definitely hard to orient myself and directions of highways, etc. around the area. From my lack of knowledge of the area it could be said that then, it "could have" been a highway far off in the distance that we were seeing.
However, I found a site that alleviated that allegation by giving me a satellite view of the area in question. There are no roads that could possibly be seen from the angle and direction of the "view point" at the guardrail.
I will post pictures of this satellite image in the next few days. I need to take it into a program and circle the area in question. You all will see what I am seeing. There are roads, yes, way off in the distance, but they are running the opposite direction of the way that most of you naysayers are saying its running, or would have to run for the headlights to be seen, especially at the intensity that they are seen at.
The light is intense and stays that way for sometimes minutes. The only way for this to happen is for a car to stop on the road that is miles away and turn directly facing the viewpoint. As well, the taillights of the cars could only be seen if they were facing the opposite direction...literally the cars would be facing either side of the road, not directly down the highway as they would be driving.
I cant say about all of the stories that go along with it, I neither experienced or witnessed anything beyond the ordinary, besides the light itself, while there, except for one curiousity that I noticed. I am not sure how many of you paid attention to the night sky above the area, but I did notice several satellites that followed a direct path over the area. I am assuming they are satellites because they are as I have always seen them. Like pinpoint lights, almost like stars that are moving across the sky.
They were following a path that seemed to go right down over the light and down the road where you park to watch the light. I understand this is probably pure coincidence, but it was something that I noticed and hadnt read any of you mentioning it.
Again, I will post a pic of the area in question in the next few days and if you do not believe that my image is legitimate, or whatever, the link to the site can be found by going to google.com and typing in satellite images. I believe the site is called TerraServer.com...I may be wrong, but once on the site, you can type in specific places and it will give you a few different photos or panning ability on wide area map photos to let you see whats around watersmeet, michigan. Paulding is much too far away to have headlights on a car be as intense as they are viewed at the viewing site.
