The first time I heard of the Paulding Lights, I was reading a book called Other Electricities by a Michigan author whose name currently escapes me. But anyway, wasn't too impressed, I just thought it was another dumb ghost story, right? Well, me and three friends got bored about 10 ish hours ago, and decided, what the hell, let's drive to Paulding. We're from Houghton, so it wasn't a bad drive, and we, again, were bored. I wasn't at all sure what to expect. One of my friends looked up a bunch of stuff beforehand, but otherwise we were clueless. At first, there were already two cars out there, just chilling. And we saw the light, and they said "No, those are just headlights." Seemed logical, so I went with it. But we decided to hang out for a while longer and just see what happened. Most of the people that we saw out there, and there were a lot, were drunk. Lol. It was very entertaining. There were people from all over. Considering their current state, I didn't attach much significance to their stories... Until my friends and I were alone for a bit. We saw the light several times. The blinding white light that seemed to get closer and then abruptly disappear, as well as the red light that stayed for long periods of time. Which was strange in and of itself. All being natural skeptics, we decided it was likely to be headlights, but inconclusive. As soon as we got back, we went onto mapquest and pulled up aerial maps of Paulding. You guys should check it out. The road that used to be there isn't even used anymore. And the end is miles and miles ahead around some twists & turns. And the part where we stopped our car at, there is a metal guard rail. So no cars can get out there. And it's not cars passing on 45, because 45 parallels the road, so there's no possible way that lights could be shining straight down the road. I'm a natural scientist, I don't believe in a lot of things like this. However... I don't know. It's kind of bizarre. My friends and I are planning to go back during the day sometime soon and walk all the way down the road. Some observations about the lights: 1) it almost looked like the lights went around a curve... and if you look at a map, that'll explain why, 2) multi-colored lights at different, sometimes the same, time, 3) no after effects like looking in the sun as mentioned before, 4) seemed to help if we flashed our headlights then waited, 5) was waaaay more frequent when we sat in the car and watched. It was really cool and definitely worth more investigation.
