yeah that is what is always said about the light I have been there and I have got to tell you it isn't car lights. also this light has been around for a long time before that road was open. besides why explain it just live with it it is a awesome thing to watch! there is always someone out there who has to try and ruin things geez! Don
well i was there last night. My friends and I brought 2 cars and did a little studying behind it. It is JUST car lights. We de-bunked it. How? By going to the other side to study for our selves. We had our friends on the phone while we were driving down the road... the light was our car...
Ever wonder why you can only see it at night? Because thats when cars have there lights on! something as small as a flashlight works as well.
In the video you can clearly understand that its just cars....
LOOK AT THE FACTS: The Paulding Light is just ONE light that supposedly sways back and forth fading in and out. It fades in and out because cars come and go. The cars have to drive over bumpy roads which causes the "bouncing/swaying" effect.
IN YOU VIDEO: There are multiple lights... THE PAULDING LIGHT IS ONE LIGHT. Did you also happen to notice that 2 lights were red (hence the cars going the opposite way) and 1 light was white (hence the car moving toward you).
ALSO: The lights tend to disappear at random points while "moving down the hill". They do this because there are very many dirt roads connected to the main dirt road that runs along the power line.
This "Paulding Light" is not a haunting or a ghost of any sort. There may not have been cars back then... But like i said, something as small as a flashlight can be seen! So back then it could actually be someone carrying a lantern... WANT TO KNOW WHY??? BECAUSE PEOPLE LIVE BACK THERE! I'm quite sure they are aware of the "Paulding Light" and just like us, they like to f**k around with the people thinking they are seeing a ghost!
I grew up in Michigan and have heard of many different stories of past hauntings and ghosts. This is just sporadic lights on vehicles on the horizon passing through trees and over burms and hills in the distance. Seems many people can take a simple object as car head and tail lights and make it a phenomenon. You should send your video footage to Ghost Hunters on the Sci-fi channel & see if they can debunk the lights.
Here in South West Michigan, one summer evening I was tracking a satellite in the starry sky, it was on a consistent path across the black sky. My eyes wondered to other stars and I saw a bright object the same size of the stars zip from left to right very quickly. Then another white object sped up to it & both lights danced back and forth. I thought maybe my eyes were playing tricks so I searched for the satellite again and found it tracking the same direction. This was not with binoculars only by my own eyesight. I took my eyes back toward the zipping lights, and they were still traveling at a momentous speed back & forth about a two foot distance across the star lit sky. After the two lit objects in the night sky created a full 360 circle, they vanished into oblivion in a snap of your fingers. They never returned. Plus these objects did not have "Blinking lights", they had no sound or audio whooshing as a jet fighter or an airliner would make. Plus those planes could not backup as fast as these objects moved. Do you believe my story? Because it is true and I don't make up ideas.
I am not saying the Paulding lights are not real but it seem too coincidental that the state hwy 45 curves ever so slightly on the horizon past those electrical towers that I could see where the lights could possibly be the vehicles on the road.

Not headlights, Ive been to the light dozens of times, and on 2 occasions have had whatever it is actually come within 20 feet of me, first time about 16 years ago it came rushing up the road at me and the car full of people that was with me, 6 years later i was married and had told my wife about it , we took a trip to the U.P. and my wife insisted on seeing it. While we were out there that night, it was pretty much standard at first just a few red lights fading in and out. About 20 minutes after being there i had a weird feeling like last time it had come at me, so i turned the car we were in around, the lights from the stereo were so bright i covered them with my hand, i heard my brother who was in the back seat say "Oh My God" and my wife gasp, i looked in the rear view mirror and saw the light moving extremely fast, to wards us, it disappeared for a second and then appeared as 2 orbs that literally filled the entire road, it was so bright it bathed the entire inside of the car with an eerie red glow, my wife screamed and started crying and my brother did too , so i gunned it out of there, haven't been back since then, dint plan to. Sounds outrageous But, its 100% true would stake my life on it.On one other occasion had some interesting electrical problems with a radio that kept shooting sparks out of the face of it every time the light would get brighter.

I'd wager that you're both correct. The origin of the phenomena is probably car headlights, but their strange behaviour, like coming right up to you, may require a bit more explaining.
In Australia we have a similar thing called the Min Min lights. A fellow from the University of Queensland has replicated the effect using artificial lights and the right weather conditions. If you don't mind spoiling the mystery for yourselves, you can find an article about it here: www.abc.net.au/science/news/stories/s818193.htm. That page has a funny picture of Prof Pettigrew, he's looking surprised at a Min Min that is hovering right in front of his face.
i have been there and its not headlights or flashlights or wutever ppl say its is its the real deal people and i was wayyy too scared to go see it at first becuase my family lives in michigan/wisconsin area and i go there every summer so i go to the light every sumer i have footage of it too at my house it really is amazing!!! but also kindof creepy! haha so whenever you get a chance to see it do it! its awesome!but when you go make sure people are quiet because for some reason its not as bright when people are loud or like acting like idiots! trust me ....its awesome!
For those who say it was a car light, explain this: This is what happened where we were there: Know how more then on can be seen at once, the really bright one and the red ones? Well, the really bright one (note: only one. If it were headlights there would be 2) began coming down the path. There was only one red light out at the time and it swayed back and forth in the horizon, the whole of the path. Explain that.
Andy you solved it. You are a genius. Of course it is car lights you saw. You can see car lights from the viewing area. THAT IS NOT THE LIGHT! You managed to prove that there are car lights visible when everyone already knows that, roflmao!!! THAT IS NOT THE LIGHT!!! And for the record the light was there before anyone even thought of building a car or a road or a light that was anything without a wick. Of course he will never read this because he has moved on to solving the bigfoot case. Let me guess, it is a guy in a suit because you and your buddy were able to rent an ape Halloween costume and walk through the woods with it on so you blew that one out of the water too. Stupendous!
The light is an incredible thing and you obviously did not see it yet. Hopefully someday you realize that you are not the smartest person alive and go back and get a chance to see what you missed.
After viewing the video several times and studying it in great detail I am convinced that this is indeed supernatural phenomena. These lights do not behave like car headlights at all. They're very similar to the Marfa lights which I've seen in person and cannot possibly be car headlights. There must be spirits behind them.
I went there four times (three successful, one cloudy which didn't count) with a group of friends back in college when I went to NMU. Each time, we found new things about the light. We never learned if the light was cars or something else but it was interesting. On each occasion we camped on the other side of the car rail, on the first night, I noticed that if I walked towards the light, after a while I couldn't see it anymore but the people on top of the hill could. (I yelled up to my group of friends who saw it still.). So what we did was looked for a good spot on the road where we could see it regularly and where it was comfortable (lots of gravel so not great for tents / sleeping bags). And we setup camp. From there what we did was split up into two groups, one at the tent watching the light and then the other group would walk towards the light to see if there were any other spots in the road that could see it. The furthest we made it was about maybe more than a half a mile from the sight where the sign is and quite frankly ( we didn't bring flashlights because we didn't want to disturb anything) it's creepy out there so no one ever mustered the courage to go further LOL! Also the trees look somewhat spooky in the moonlight and what not. But the thing that impressed me is that I never saw the lights on the other side of that hill. So if it's cars why didn't we see them? Also there are no reflective surfaces there either that would make it reflect back and because we camped out there, there would have to have been a lot of traffic at 3:30am for goodness sakes. Finally, on one of the trips we took it was cloudy and you don't see the light very well. In fact we didn't camp but instead left around 2:30am, totally bummed.
Anyway each time we went we spoke to people who lived in the area and all knew about the poor person that died in that area. There are a few main schools of thought there, most prevelant is that it's a ghost of course. But then there are those that simply think it's a prank or glowing gases. There were a few people who were most interesting to talk to, who simply thought we should go home and not mess with it. That's what peaked our interest.
Years later my wife and I had a good laugh as we saw it on unsolved mysteries. Pretty cool we thought. Anyway that's my story. Not much more to tell really cause it's something that I could only and is now a good story to tell my kids. I'm interested in the paranormal which is why I went back so many times.
I was there three times back in 1971. It was so cool and scarry! I've told my children about it and my 25 year old son is going with his friends to check it out, and we now live in the Minneapolis area. Back then, it was the same as it is now, but this video just doesn't do it justice, you have to see it for yourself. If you see it, you will know that it has nothing to do with car lights! When you are out there at 3:00 in the morning, there are no cars on the roads, YOU ARE WAY OUT IN THE BOONDOCKS! Sometimes there is a half hour between cars on those roads. I lived 10 miles from there for 15 years. This is out in the middle of nowhere. Those lights come up very close to you and its a big glowing ball on the power line. ( which may not even be in use anymore) Then we would get in the car and chase it down the road and then it would dissappear again for a while. It was a big thing back then for the teenagers to go see, and it sounds like it still is. If you get a chance, go see it, I guarantee you won't still think it is car lights! I can't believe some people think they can tell what it is by seeing this video! Go see it!
