To all of the sceptics, and curious minded, I must clear the air here. I have visited and witnessed the Paulding Light experience over 100 times so far in my life. I have seen it in the summer, 4am in the morning. In the Fall, 11pm. In the Spring Rain, 9pm. In the dusk, in the dawn. In the middle of snow storms, when it's 0 below! By myself, on foot 3am, weekdays, weekends, freakin year round! It is not car lights, and still not truly explained. But it is real. Many stories have been told of the light, but the one I belive comes from someone who used to live in the area in 1889. The story goes that a miner used to walk the railroad tracks to get too and from work and home. Of course it was dark when he left in the early morning, and dark when he returned home. Hence the use of the lantern. His hearing was gone due to the years of blasting in the mine. One night, he walked home, he did not hear the train behind him, and was killed. Hence the glowing lantern theory. This story was told to me when I was a young child, by the eldest grandfather in a local family, whom I hold in the highest honor. I have left out many details that I will not share. But each time the story was told, it was exactly like I had heared in many times before. This comes from a hard working honest yooper man, who cut and chopped his own firewood until he was 89! Long before the State and Government took over the site. If anyone remebers that used to live there, many houses where on Robbins Pond Rd. Why would the Government purchase these houses, farmes, and surrounding area lands, force people to move, giving up family homes, just to make a tourist trap? Why did they dig up the road that connected Paulding to Bond Falls? What are they hidding? This is the point that everyone seems to overlook. Why spend hundreds of thousands on something trying to keep people away from the actual site, that gives no turn around profit? If theres a mystery here I think its just that. Find someone who used to live on Robbins Pond Road when the Government came with there checks to purchase. Ask them why there houses are torn down and there prior owned land not accessable. Is this just for tourist and camping? I think not. Investigate from there, and some striking questions will evolve. Thanks for your time.
