To all of the sceptics, and curious minded, I must clear the air here. I have visited and witnessed the Paulding Light experience over 100 times so far in my life. I have seen it in the summer, 4am in the morning. In the Fall, 11pm. In the Spring Rain, 9pm. In the dusk, in the dawn. In the middle of snow storms, when it's 0 below! By myself, on foot 3am, weekdays, weekends, freakin year round! It is not car lights, and still not truly explained. But it is real. Many stories have been told of the light, but the one I belive comes from someone who used to live in the area in 1889. The story goes that a miner used to walk the railroad tracks to get too and from work and home. Of course it was dark when he left in the early morning, and dark when he returned home. Hence the use of the lantern. His hearing was gone due to the years of blasting in the mine. One night, he walked home, he did not hear the train behind him, and was killed. Hence the glowing lantern theory. This story was told to me when I was a young child, by the eldest grandfather in a local family, whom I hold in the highest honor. I have left out many details that I will not share. But each time the story was told, it was exactly like I had heared in many times before. This comes from a hard working honest yooper man, who cut and chopped his own firewood until he was 89! Long before the State and Government took over the site. If anyone remebers that used to live there, many houses where on Robbins Pond Rd. Why would the Government purchase these houses, farmes, and surrounding area lands, force people to move, giving up family homes, just to make a tourist trap? Why did they dig up the road that connected Paulding to Bond Falls? What are they hidding? This is the point that everyone seems to overlook. Why spend hundreds of thousands on something trying to keep people away from the actual site, that gives no turn around profit? If theres a mystery here I think its just that. Find someone who used to live on Robbins Pond Road when the Government came with there checks to purchase. Ask them why there houses are torn down and there prior owned land not accessable. Is this just for tourist and camping? I think not. Investigate from there, and some striking questions will evolve. Thanks for your time.
I have seen the Paulding Light more than a handful of times and I'm convinced it's no headlights. Traffic in the U.P. is very scarce after midnight and to see the light appear, disappear, and reappear so much wouldn't explain it. Neither would the fact that the light changes from white, to a bright white, to red, to green, and other colors. I've been there before when the red light split into two and literally started dancing around on the horizon. One of the red lights was doing like a figure-eight pattern to the left and the other to the right. Explain that as car tail lights and I don't buy it. The other odd thing I've noticed, and heard before, is that if you make a lot of noise the light knows you're there and disappears. It seems rather true on summer nights when many people gather, the light starts getting bright, then someone drives up with their brights on and the light goes away. I've also always noticed that when my friends and I are the only ones out there and we're just starting to drive away, the light will instantly get bright. Maybe it's trying to reach out to us, I don't know. Just odd.
Car Lights? Sorry, but I don't think it could be car lights. I've been up there many MANY times, driving the roads at pretty much any time of day. Trust me. There's definately NOT that much traffic. Especially at night.
It is definitely not car lights that for sure. I live in the U.P and have been to see the light often during the summer and fall. But this last summer on of my friends had never seen it so we went and it was definetly interesting. There were these two guys from Green Bay that had been camping and one guy was video taping and was almost positive that it was just a car's tail lights. But we provide him wrong...there was 6 of us all together and 5 of us went walking past the guard rails it took about 15min. to get to were we were going but we ended getting about 100 yds away from where the light was and I have never been so scared it looks definitely different from where we were. The first light was the bright white one which lit up the hole area and I could see our faces in the pitch black and then the red light like shoots off of the red and came down along the pole line needless to say we were all holding hands at this point. One guy stay back at the guard rail and we talked to him frequently while we were standing there. We definitely changed the guys from green bays minds about the car lights and they video taped us when we had gotten back..I never did get there hole names but if for some reason you guys happen to read this post a message I would like to get in touch with you. There was some other things that had happened also when we were walking back too that was freaky......
sorry for the misspellings i was just really tired but i am hoping to hear from the ppl i was with that night the video tape us talking about what happend and i am also curious about the pics we took while standing on that rock watching the light.
